Importance of Games and Its Classifications

All of us are busy with our own works and most of us are not finding time to play games and relax our mind and body. In today’s times, we all must spend some time in playing games, in order to keep our mind and body fresh.

Games can take a variety of forms, from competitive sports to board games and video games. Games can be classified based on primary skill that is needed for playing that particular game. Some of the skills include games of physical skill (e.g. wrestling), games of mental skill (e.g. chess), games of strategy (e.g. checkers), and games of chance (e.g. gambling). However, most games contain two or all three of the above mentioned elements. Many card and board games combine all three; most trick-taking games involve mental skill, strategy, and an element of chance.

Games can be either of the two, single player games when number of players playing the game is only one, or multi player games when more than one player is playing the same game. Single-player games are unique in respect to the type of challenges a player faces, unlike a game with multiple players competing with or against each other to reach game’s goal.

In single player game, the player need to battle solely against an element of the environment (an artificial opponent), against one’s own skills, against time, or against chance. Computer game cannot be claimed as single-player, as in computer games the computer provides the opposition. If computer is merely record-keeping, then the game may be validly single-player.
