James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game is a third-person action video game, based on James Cameron’s film Avatar, for the Nintendo DS, the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, the Wii, the PlayStation Portable, and the iPhone.

Like in the movie, the protagonist is one Marine Lance Corporal Able Ryder (gotta love them cheap puns), who is your avatar in the game on the planet Pandora. The one leg the game has up on the thoroughly immoral movie is that you can actually choose to do your job and help the evil mining corporation and the evil US Marines protecting them to go on mining the minerals that keep civilization running. But of course you’re supposed to choose to betray your employer, your country, and your way of life to shack up in a tree house with cute blue natives that are able to plug themselves in to the vast, stale wisdom of Mother Earth, uh, Mother Pandora.

Looks like it’s time for you to step on the conveyor belt of political correctness run amuck. Go play a video game that simulates trashing the industrialized civilization that made video games possible. This is the greatest video game ever, as it allows you to suspend the twin laws of identity and causality. At least until your fellow gamers and movie goers take the lessons taught by Avatar to heart and make industrialized civilization collapse around you to spend all their time hugging trees and all the blue aliens they can lay hands on.

At least your Nintendo DS runs on batteries, so you’ll be one of the last people playing video games, provided you can loot some batteries after the collapse of civilization. Go native on Nintendo DS!
